Reflection for Edmund Tan
Originally, I was not really interested in
the subject of study as I thought that sugar gliders were pests, but after
doing the research and realising that they’re not even from the rodent family
tree, I was surprised that they were actually related to kangaroos and koalas.
After getting over the initial disinterest, I grew found of these critters
which were very impressive as they were able to glide up to 150 feet. This feat
was able to be done through their membrane which was the inspiration for our
group, the Patagium. The mechanics of the Patagium inspired our group to the
Wing Suit which would be the product of bio-mimicry on sugar gliders. Although
the inspiration that we came up with is already available on the market, we
believe there are improvements that can be made to the suit to improve its
performance.
As a
group leader, I wasn’t confident in the role, but after a few weeks of working
together with the team, I found everyone to be co-operative and helpful around
each other. With this, I had built the confidence to be proud of the team.
Although there are times when we do not readily agree with each other,
everything was solved through some healthy discussion. All the tasks that
needed to be accomplished were divided evenly and everyone did their given
roles. All in all, I’m proud of the team and would not hesitate to work with
them again if an opportunity presents itself.
