Reflection for Dharuna Raj
By analysing the sugar glider, one of
the most interesting adoption of biomimicry based on this animal is its
patagium (gliding membrane). A sugar
glider has the ability to stretch its patagium from the wrist to ankle which
would allow the sugar glider to glide from tree to tree. After it has safely
landed, it would retract it back. By conducting literature review, it showed
that the patagium consist of a thin layer of skin with a large surface area. Due to this characteristic, it generates
enough lift force that is required for the sugar glider to glide. Therefore,
base on this, the patagium was inspired to be adopted onto our wing suit idea.
The wing suit is used in an extreme sport activity such as base jumping. By
using the wing suit, it would decrease the decent speed and would allow the
individual to glide farther and faster. However, this product has already been
developed by a company called Fly Your Body. Due to the similarity of the
product, the patentability idea for this proposed product must be discarded.
I believe that working together as a
team is far easier compared to working individually. As a team, the literature
research work load was divided equally which made the task easier to be carried
out. I am proud of my fellow group members and team leader, as they attended meetings
that was organized and we helped each other out with certain tasks that was
complicated. Even though as a team we might disagree with one and other, but we
manage to put our personal feeling aside and behaved professionally in order to
complete this blog within the given time.
