Sugar Glider? What are these cute critters?
Sugar Gliders while probably obvious, received their name
from their love of foods which are sweet such as fruits and vegetables. The
Glider part of their name originates from their ability to glide from tree to
tree through the use of their gliding membrane. In the same context, their
scientific name, Petaurus breviceps literally translates from Latin to
“short-headed rope-dancer” which is a reference to their acrobatic acts done in
the canopy. One might wonder, where did they originate from? Well, these little
guys came from the rainforests of Australia and Indonesia.
